New School Year Brings Re-launch of Meredith Library After-School Program

It's that time of the year - the school bells are ringing and the library is once again hosting its popular after-school program.  Teen Librarian MaryBeth and Library Aide Jackeye have been busy all summer with the Teen Summer Program, but they have found time to plan and prepare for several months' worth of fun and exciting activities for the kids for the fall.

Tuesdays and Fridays will have consistent offerings.  On Tuesdays, kids will play Among Us using the iPads and tablets as well as the large screen TV.  Fridays are always devoted to Jackbox Games during which kids get to be creative, silly, and show their recall of trivia depending on the game.

Wednesdays and Thursdays are screen-free days for special activities. MaryBeth and Jackeye love coming up with creative ideas to fulfill the no-electronics goal.

Highlights of these special activities include the Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza Palooza on Thursday, September 10 which will include endless rounds of the Taco Cat card game that kids love.  On October 14, it's "Yes and…if you know, you know" time with a special improv class.  Some special activities are also weather dependent such as the Flag Football on the Lawn planned for September 17 and Giant Games on the Patio on September 30.  If the weather doesn't cooperate. MaryBeth always has an indoor back-up plan.

This school year will also feature the occasional (and newly-named) Teen Choice Days.  On those days, kids will get to "hang out" at the library and choose what they would like to do.

The Teen After-School program runs four days per week (Tuesdays through Fridays).  The school provides 20 bus passes per day so students can take the bus directly to the library after school.  Snacks are provided. The program is designed for kids from ages 10-18.  Children ages 10 and over are welcome to come to the library without a parent or guardian, but library staff members are not responsible for their supervision.

There is no charge to participants for the program.  The Friends of the Meredith Public Library pay for the snacks and the program supplies.
